Fortnite Sprites (Ch6 S3)

Someone on the Fortnite Girlie's Facebook Page said "I want the sprites as plushies, they are so cute!!" and I immediately grabbed a hook and got to work.

Materials:

Any bulky (#6) yarn in a color of your choice (I used Premier Yarns Parfait Chunky Pom Poms)
WW (#4) yarn in desired colors for accessories
Size K (#10.5 or 6.50 mm) crochet hook
Size G (#6 or 4.25 mm) crochet hook
 Yarn Needle
Polyester fiberfill (pillows work just as well!)
 Scissors
Felt sheets in red and yellow

Notes:

  • Gauge isn't that important, so long as your stitches are tight and the stuffing won't show or fall out. You can use a different yarn and hook if so desired, just make sure you use a good combination that won't leave gappy holes.
  • The (parentheses) at the end of each Rnd/Row indicate the number of stitches at the end of that Rnd/Row.
  • I work in continuous rounds (aka spiral rounds), but if you prefer to join at the end of each round that's fine. I also decrease in front loops only because I've heard that it makes the decrease stitch less visible.
  • If you don't know what a Magic Ring is don't panic! It's also called Magic Loop or Magic Circle. Here's an alternative: If the pattern says 6 sc in Magic Ring you can ch 2 and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook and join stitches. I prefer working with a Magic Ring because you can pull it as tight as you want so that the stuffing won't show. Just use whatever you feel most comfortable using.

(US) Terminology Key

  • ch = chain (make a slip knot and then make the foundation chain)
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • SC = single crochet
  • dec = decrease (2 sc together)
  • inc = increase (2 sc in 1 st)
  • MR = Magic Ring (see notes for instructions)
  • around = repeat steps until you reach the last stitch of the round
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • hdc inc = two hdc in 1 stitch
  • hdc dec = yarn over, pull yarn through 2 stitches (4 loops on hook), then yarn over and pull through all 4 loops
  • dc = double crochet

Sprite Body:
1: ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn work and sc in back of foundation chain as well (40)

17: sc in 6, reach over gap and sc in stitch across and next 5 stitches (12)

19: hdc in 1, hdc dec around (9)
20: hdc in each (9)
21: hdc in 1, hdc dec around (6)
Stuff leg and sc gap closed (insert hook into next stitch and stitch across the gap from it). F/O and weave in end.

Second leg:
Attach yarn 6 stitches from the end stitch on other side of body.
17: hdc in 6, reach over gap and hdc in stitch across and next 5 stitches (12)
18: hdc in 2, hdc dec around (9)

Stuff leg and sc gap closed (insert hook into next stitch and stitch across the gap from it). F/O and weave in end.

Crotch area:
Attach yarn to inside of one leg. Sc across gap to close. Stuff as you go.
You can also just weave in a strand of yarn and pull to close, whichever you prefer.

Arms: (make 2)
Attach yarn a little under halfway up the doll.
1: sc in 7 stitches circular (7)
2 - 4: sc in each around (7)
F/O. Stuff, weave in end through last round of stitches and pull to close.

DASH

Mask: (using G hook and WW yarn in white)
1: 8 sc in MR (8)
2: inc in each around (16)
3: sc in 2, inc around, sc in last st (21)
*Change color to blue*
4: hdc in 2, hdc inc around (28)
*For second (left) eye, ch 1 and turn after round 4*

F/O and weave in ends.
6: Attach same color yarn to right eye's 1st dc in "dc in next 8 sts". Ch 5, sc to other eye in 1st dc in "dc in next 8 sts". (7)
7: Do not ch 1. Turn work and sc across ch sts and into next dc st in right eye. (7)
8: Do not ch 1. Turn work and sc across sts and into next dc st in left eye. (7)
9: Do not ch 1. Turn work, dec, sc across 3 sts, dec, sc into next dc st in right eye. (5)
F/O with long tail for sewing. Sew to front of doll, stuffing as you go if desired.

Cape: (using G hook and WW yarn)
Attach blue yarn to back roughly 3 stitches from arm.
1: hdc in same st and 14 back stitches across (15) ch 2, turn
2: dc in each st across (15) ch 2, turn
3: 3 dc in 1st stitch, dc in next 13 stitches, 3 dc in last st (19) ch 2, turn
4: dc in each st across (19) ch 2, turn
5: 3 dc in 1st stitch, dc in next 21 stitches, 3 dc in last st (23) ch 2, turn
6 - 10: dc in each st across (23)
F/O and weave in ends.

SUPERMAN

Underwear: (using G hook and WW yellow yarn)
Attach yellow WW yarn to side of body about 3 sts under arm (see picture for reference). Sc across body and around. (roughly 38 sts. Count doesn't matter right now, don't freak out lol, we'll fix it later.)
2 - 3: hdc in each around (~38 sts)
*Change color to red*
4: hdc in each st around, occasionally grabbing parts of the body and stitching the red to the body as you go (this will prevent the "tent"-like feeling of the plush). I grabbed body stitches every 3 stitches.
5: hdc in 17 sts, ch 1, turn, hdc in 19 sts, ch 1, turn (19)
6: sl st in 6, hdc in 8, ch 1, turn (14)
7: hdc dec across, ch 1, turn (4)
8 - 10: hdc in each (4) at end of row 10, ch 7
11: Attach to side of front of underwear, sc in ch and bottom of red row from earlier, connecting the two red pieces together with sc. Sc 11 in two pieces, sc on bottom of red row from earlier (9 sts). sc in side of front of underwear. F/O and weave in ends.

If these instructions don't make sense to you, please leave a comment or send me an email and I will write a special pattern to crochet the underwear flat and then sew it on. I just don't like sewing so I was trying to avoid it.

Belt loops: (make 2, using G hook and WW red yarn)
1: ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and remaining 2, ch 1, turn (3)
2 - 4: sc in each across, ch 1, turn (3)
F/O with long enough tail for sewing. I just did the front belt loops, but you can do two at the back if you really want to.

Cape: (using G hook and WW red yarn)
Attach yarn to back roughly 3 stitches from arm.

'S' Emblem: Cut out of red and yellow felt and hot glue to plushie.

Eyes: (make 2 using black)
1: 5 in MR (5)
2: inc in each around (10)
3: sc in 1, inc around (15)
4: sc in 2, inc around (20)
F/O with long enough tail for sewing.

Inner Eyes: (make 2, using white)
1: 5 in MR (5)
F/O with long enough tail for sewing. Sew to black eyes using pictures as reference.

Embroider eye shines as you see fit and sew eyes to body. Embroider smile above 'S' Emblem between eyes.

Hope you enjoy your Fortnite Sprites!
